Tea Time with Dimity Betts

Tea Time with Dimity Betts

Recently, Dimity and I met for a cuppa at Ruby's Café in Tamworth. Dimity brought her two gorgeous (and patient) children with her, Juno 4 year and Myles 2 years. Dimity's lovely, calm demeanour combined with a couple of milkshakes kept them happy while we had a fabulous chat.

Dimity is a local artisan who owns a beautiful tea brand called Dimmy Tea. Dimity wasn't always a small business owner. Before launching her brand, Dimity studied Biomedical science at the University of Newcastle and finished off the degree closer to home at the University of New England in Armidale. Dimity worked in a local pharmacy and in the area of pathology for five years before she settled down to get married and had a family.

Dimity has always lived in the Tamworth area, growing up on her parent's poultry farm. She now lives on a picturesque block in the Moonbi ranges, enjoying stunning views over the mountains from her house. It was here that Dimity began experimenting with various blends of tea and basically became slightly obsessed with finding the perfect compositions.

Dimmy Tea was launched and the considered, earthy branding reflected the natural, organic product. Using packaging that was recyclable and compostable was important as well. Dimity began selling her teas at the local grower's markets and realized how popular they were becoming. This is when she decided to take the business to another level and began wholesaling to local stores.

Now, Dimity has a great reputation where she handcrafts her teas in small batches to maximise quality and seasonal variance in flavours.

The team at Country Culture couldn't resist stocking her quality and delicious tea. We always have some in our office ready to go. Dimity's brand is a perfect fit with ours and our customers love her teas.

When I asked this tea lover the most difficult question of all,

“What is your favourite tea?”

Dimity deliberated and eventually decided on Chai but it really depends on her mood.
